We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy dreamlike exploration with puzzle-solving
- Adventure players who search for optional collectibles and hidden routes
- Players interested in story discovery through a character’s memories
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking combat-focused gameplay may find the puzzle and exploration structure too restrained
- Players who prefer tightly linear progression may find optional chests and concealed paths distracting
- Players looking for a deep role-playing system may find the focus on movement, puzzles, and discoveries too narrow
Our take on Gnome Light
The focus on one character’s dream exploration gives the game a clear thematic setting, but it leaves less room for broader systems such as combat, party management, or role-playing progression. Optional discoveries add detail without changing the central puzzle-and-exploration structure.
What is Gnome Light?
Gnorbert travels through a dreamworld shaped by his memories, fears, and experiences.
Exploration reveals puzzles, concealed treasures, chests, and routes that can lead to additional memories. A magical light guides movement, illuminates objects, burns certain objects, and can be extended or drawn back; retracting it lets Gnorbert move faster. The light also gathers fireflies, which are used to open magical portals. Each collected firefly increases Gnorbert’s jumping ability. Chests are optional and do not form part of the puzzles, but finding them can unlock different memories. Hidden passages and trails add discoveries beyond the main puzzle route.
How Gnome Light plays
- 01Magic Light Tool
- The light reveals areas, burns objects, reaches outward, and can be withdrawn to increase movement speed.
- 02Firefly Collection
- Gathered fireflies open magical portals and raise Gnorbert’s jumping ability one insect at a time.
- 03Memory Unlocks
- Optional chests and concealed routes can reveal additional memories from Gnorbert’s life.
