- Players uninterested in supernatural settings or pop-culture references may find the theme mismatched.
Our take on Ghostly Matter
The hybrid structure trades a narrowly focused puzzle adventure for a broader exploration-and-combat loop. Progress is spread across rooms, collectibles, clues, weapons, enemies, and power-ups, so the investigation is paired with substantial action rather than kept as a purely cerebral mystery.
What is Ghostly Matter?
Ghostly Matter combines metroidvania exploration with graphic-adventure puzzles in a supernatural mystery.
Professor Penderghast travels to the cursed Blackwood mansion in northern Scotland after receiving a distress call from his missing friend Melvil. The game features an open map with over 600 rooms across more than 20 settings. Exploration includes collecting items, finding clues, speaking with NPCs, and solving puzzles. Combat includes 40+ enemies divided into three categories, 10 bosses, six weapons, and 14 power-ups. The polterscope visor reveals ghosts and hidden items. More than 100 collectibles and references to pop culture supplement the investigation, while a customisable CRT filter controls blur, curved-screen, desaturation, and glitch effects.
