StrategyIs GearCity worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want a detailed automobile business simulation rather than a simplified tycoon game
- Strategy fans interested in manufacturing, finance, markets, and corporate competition
- Players willing to spend several hours learning a complex management system
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a quick management game may hit a wall during the several-hour learning period.
- Players who want a light-touch tycoon experience may struggle with the many interconnected production, financial, labor, and market decisions.
- Players looking for a general empire or military strategy game may find the focus on automobile business management too narrow.
Our take on GearCity
The bounce point arrives before the first successful company is established: vehicle design, factory planning, pricing, labor, finance, and market decisions all compete for attention. Players expecting a short tycoon loop may leave during the several-hour learning period, before the deeper simulation systems become familiar.
What is GearCity?
GearCity is a business simulation centered on the global automobile industry.
Players create chassis, engines, transmissions, and vehicles, then manage factories, production lines, supplies, prices, employees, distribution branches, and marketing and racing budgets. The game also includes labor negotiations, subsidiary dividends, hostile takeovers, and production of military equipment for governments at war. Maps cover hundreds of cities or a few dozen regions, with economic conditions such as population, inflation, interest, and market growth affecting decisions. Historical events, including World War 1 and the Great Depression, shape the course of play. The simulation includes static and dynamically generated AI competitors. GearCity is intended to take several hours to learn and hundreds of hours to master.
