Our take on Freenergy
The shared energy pool makes action allocation part of every fight, but it limits how many robot units can act at once. This focuses play on timing and distribution rather than allowing every module to act independently.
What is Freenergy?
Freenergy is a turn-based tactics game set in a future where robot gladiator battles are common.
The player is an engineer held by a corporation and forced to build war machines and fight to protect their life and loved ones. At a base, the robot is developed and prepared for battles. It consists of multiple parts, with each part acting as a combat unit. A shared energy supply must be divided among these units so they can act.
Abilities use different activation times, allowing attacks to be planned, and multiple abilities can be activated at once. Battles feature varied enemies, including robot rivals based on characters from folk tales. The robot gains skills over time, while its modules use different abilities. A cybercat accompanies the engineer.
How Freenergy plays
- 01Modular robot
- The robot is assembled from several parts, and each part functions as a separate combat unit.
- 02Shared energy pool
- Energy must be divided among the units before they perform actions.
- 03Timed abilities
- Abilities activate at different speeds, creating timing choices during attacks.
- 04Combined activations
- Several abilities can be triggered simultaneously during combat.
- 05Folk-tale rivals
- Some opposing robots are based on characters from folk tales.
