Our take on Forgetter
Rather than treating exploration as a search for objects or routes alone, Forgetter makes destruction and cleanup the central task. Its mindscapes connect that work to artists’ memories and artworks, while the player also attends to the consciousness left behind.
What is Forgetter?
Forgetter is an exploration game set in a future where a technology company recycles the minds of deceased artists for newborns.
As the company’s 114th Forgetter, the player enters artists’ mindscapes to find and smash blocks tied to traumatic memories, including blocks represented by contemporary artworks. The work also involves vacuuming up debris and comforting the consciousness that remains in each mind before escorting it onward. The journey brings players into episodes from artists’ lives and sometimes shifts between the 1980s and the 2010s. Art from dslcollection is incorporated into the narrative, including real artworks. The game’s central task combines destruction and cleanup with exploring the minds being recycled.
