- Players who do not want puzzles to be part of survival horror may find the island's challenges unsuitable
Our take on Foglight
The defining structure is a single pursuer that learns from player actions and becomes harder over time while both sides follow the same rules.
What is Foglight?
Foglight is a single-player survival horror game set on an open island, where a new lighthouse keeper discovers that the night watch is not solitary.
Farberto, the pursuing creature, follows the same rules as the player, responds to actions, and becomes more difficult as time passes. Exploration combines free roaming with secrets, lore, notes, clues, and challenging puzzles. Save locations are rare, and the island’s events can lead to several endings that vary according to playthrough choices. Sound supports both the scares and gameplay, while jump scares can occur during exploration. The game was DangerousBob’s first Unreal Engine project and forms part of the foundation of DangerousBob Studio LLC.
How Foglight plays
- 01Adaptive Pursuer
- Farberto reacts to player actions and grows more difficult over time while following the same rules as the player.
- 02Open Island
- The setting allows free exploration across an island with secrets, notes, clues, and lore to discover.
- 03Multiple Endings
- Playthrough events can lead to several endings that differ substantially from one another.
- 04Scarce Save Spots
- Save locations are uncommon, adding a recurring constraint during island exploration.
- 05Puzzle Exploration
- The island contains puzzles described as difficult even for experienced horror-game players.
- 06Sound-Based Gameplay
- Audio contributes to both the scare factor and the gameplay.
