- Players seeking puzzle-focused or real-time stealth strategy gameplay should look elsewhere.
Our take on Fernageddon
The pitch foregrounds world-burning, but the described progression centers on character development, loot, followers, and tactical combat. The destruction theme is the framing; the concrete activities are familiar RPG systems, with the deity’s ennui adding a separate pressure mechanic.
What is Fernageddon?
Fernageddon is a turn-based RPG and strategy game about serving a Fire God and burning the world.
Start as an aspiring champion, build skills, learn spells, recruit followers, and seek loot and weapons through exploration and combat. The 3D world includes dungeons, cities, and other locations, while battles pit the character and followers against enemies ranging from raiders and elves to dragons and demons. Combat success depends on multiple factors, and fighting grants experience for developing skills.
The game lists about 200 skills and 52 professions, with an initial choice of 4 professions that branch at levels 5 and 10. A rising ennui measure can prompt the Fire God to assign unwanted rewards. Heretic mode offers an open-ended battle against the forces of fire.
