Play it if you…
Good fit- Space-combat fans who want to leave the cockpit during missions

Skip it if you…

- Players looking for an open-ended space sandbox may prefer a game without a mission-led campaign
Our take on Ensign-1
The store page emphasizes freedom outside the fighter, but the game is also presented as a structured mission campaign with a defined protagonist. That makes the core experience more focused than the broad freedom framing might initially suggest.
What is Ensign-1?
Ensign-1 is a space combat game set after a colonization mission turns back toward Earth following a distress signal and the loss of contact.
Players take the role of Leon Deckard, a member of the Ensign-1 space forces, and progress through missions aimed at reclaiming the solar system from an alien threat. Combat extends beyond piloting a fighter: Leon can leave the cockpit to enter ships and stations, plant bombs, operate turrets, and take control of alien fighters. Survival depends on choosing how to approach each objective and returning alive. The game presents a difficult combat experience built around switching between fighter operations and activities inside other vessels.
