Our take on EMPULSE
Movement is the defining combat system: wall-runs, grapples, jumps, launch pads, slides, and altered surfaces are chained together while teams contest mechs that appear during a round.
What is EMPULSE?
EMPULSE is a 6v6 movement shooter set in the vertical streets of Freehold.
Matches center on chaining wall-runs, grapple swings, Holojumps, jetpacks, launch pads, and slides to move through fights. P. A. I. N. T. bombs alter surfaces with jump, speed, explosive, healing, or sticky effects. Mid-round, two mechs appear at the map’s center, creating an objective for Crews to contest. A captured mech includes a chaingun, rockets, heavy melee attacks, a bubble shield, a charge jump with an impact shockwave, and a dash. The game is offered in Early Access, with the vendor planning additional modes, maps, weapons, mechs, and meta playstyles. At launch, cosmetics are earned through Gigs, progression, and events, with no store, battle pass, or microtransactions.
How EMPULSE plays
- 01Chained movement
- Players can combine wall-running, grappling, Holojumps, jetpacks, launch pads, and slides while navigating vertical surfaces.
- 02Surface-altering bombs
- Five P.A.I.N.T. bomb types create jump, speed, explosive, healing, or sticky effects.
- 03Contested mechs
- Two mechs appear at the center of the map during a round, and Crews fight to claim them.
- 04Mech weapon kit
- Each captured mech carries a chaingun, rockets, melee attacks, a bubble shield, a charge jump, and a dash.
- 05Early Access development
- The vendor plans to adjust weapons, mechs, and modes through community feedback and add new content over time.
