Our take on Egress
The store page foregrounds the setting, factions, characters, and shifting dangers, but gives little explanation of how PvP matches are structured or how the 13 characters differ in practice. The arena format and combat loop receive less detail than the world-building.
What is Egress?
Egress is a multiplayer PvP arena game set in a city combining neon imagery, Lovecraftian horror, post-apocalyptic elements, and Victorian-era surroundings.
Players select from 13 characters, each with distinct abilities, weapons, fighting styles, and objectives. Combat centers on dodging, close-range attacks, character abilities, and equipment collected during play. Artifacts and consumable items can alter how encounters unfold. Players can enter the city alone or with others, choose a broad faction, and join a local group. Streets, buildings, and sewer passages form a multi-level urban setting where monsters, hostile adventurers, and other dangers appear. The difficulty changes during play, with madness waves and floods affecting the city. The game includes four named factions: Explorers, Bandits, Mercenaries, and Guards.
