- RPG players who enjoy customizing and training a group of heroes
- Strategy players who prefer procedural maps, dungeon expeditions, and adjustable pacing
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a focused tactical RPG may hit a wall when colony construction, resource gathering, and hero duties become part of progression.
- Players wanting a fixed campaign may find procedural islands, dungeons, and heroes less structured than a predefined adventure.
- Players who prefer real-time combat may not enjoy battles built around turns, placement, and unit synergies.
- Players looking for a purely decorative settlement may find lighting, temperature, mood, and social systems too involved.
Our take on Edge Islands
Colony-focused players may bounce when hero care becomes a parallel obligation: training and combat compete with farming, construction, resource work, moods, relationships, and other duties.
What is Edge Islands?
Edge Islands blends settlement building with turn-based tactical role-playing.
Start an outpost on a randomly created island, collect supplies, grow crops, care for livestock, and build structures for a developing roster of heroes. Recruit, develop, outfit, and personalize them through classes, abilities, and equipment while overseeing their feelings, goals, characteristics, social ties, and work around the settlement. Search generated islands for landmarks and materials, then dispatch parties into generated underground areas for treasure and gold. Combat uses four-person squads, with positioning and team combinations shaping encounters. Success grants experience, opens new building choices, and enables expansion. Seasonal weather, dungeon leaders, illumination, and heat systems add management challenges.
How Edge Islands plays
- 01Procedural Exploration
- Each game generates islands, dungeons, and heroes, while islands include points of interest and resources.
- 02Colony Development
- Gathering, farming, animal raising, construction, recruitment, and customization support expansion from an outpost toward a fortress.
- 03Tactical Battles
- Turn-based encounters use teams of 4 and depend on unit placement and synergies between units.
- 04Hero Progression
- Training facilities provide class-based combat skills, while experience, equipment, potions, and items shape individual heroes.
- 05Social Management
- Mood, ambitions, traits, relationships, and colony duties are part of managing the heroes.
- 06Colony Systems
- Lighting and temperature propagation systems add further factors for players optimizing their settlement.
