We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Virtual-reality explorers who want cave environments rather than combat-focused play
- Players who enjoy choosing equipment before each expedition
- Players who want optional progression, gemstones, and scenario-based challenges
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking sustained combat or a story-driven campaign may find cave traversal and exploration too central.
- Players who dislike navigation, darkness, underwater passages, or creepy-crawlies may hit a wall when exploring the deeper cave sections.
- Players seeking conventional flat-screen controls may not fit a virtual-reality experience.
Our take on Echo Grotto
The bounce point arrives when cave navigation becomes the main activity: players who dislike retracing routes, managing light, or moving through dark and underwater spaces may stop at the first demanding expedition. The creature settings reduce the obstacle for players who specifically object to cave animals.
What is Echo Grotto?
Echo Grotto is a virtual-reality cave exploration experience with underwater tunnels, open caverns, crystal formations, ravines, sulfur pools, pits, and glow-worm-lit areas.
Each cave combines hand-built passages with subtle random variation. Before entering, players select equipment such as a grappling hook, headlamp, lantern, snorkel, or flare gun. Movement includes throwing a lamp to teleport and leave a visible route, or using hooks to pull through the environment. The experience mode provides unrestricted equipment for exploration, while game mode begins with basic tools and adds searches for upgrades and gemstones used as currency. Scenarios change starting points, hazards, equipment, or cave conditions. Cave creatures include snails, eels, and wetas, with settings to adjust which animals appear.
