Our take on ECHO
The story and atmosphere receive prominent emphasis, but the central structure is a demanding cycle of behavior management. Players who approach it mainly as a narrative exploration game may encounter a sharper shift toward stealth, combat, and adapting to self-generated enemies.
What is ECHO?
ECHO follows En, who awakens after a century in stasis and enters a palace built by a long-vanished civilization.
The game combines third-person science-fiction adventure with stealth, combat, exploration, and story-driven discovery. The palace observes En’s behavior and creates copies that reproduce the actions she uses, such as sprinting, sneaking, or shooting. Periodic blackouts divide play into cycles: during each one, the palace cannot observe her, allowing actions that will not influence the next group of copies. After the blackout, the enemies adapt to behavior from the preceding cycle. En’s journey also investigates her history, the palace, and a man she intends to revive. The experience begins as a narrative journey and becomes more demanding as its reactive enemies develop.
How ECHO plays
- 01Behavioral Enemy Copies
- The palace creates duplicates of En that imitate the actions she has used.
- 02Blackout Cycles
- Periodic palace shutdowns create intervals when En’s actions do not affect later enemy behavior.
- 03Stealth And Combat
- Progress combines sneaking, weapons, and manipulation while facing enemies shaped by previous play.
- 04Story-Focused Exploration
- En’s descent reveals information about her past, the palace, and the person she seeks to revive.
