Our take on Earthion
Rather than presenting a modern shooter through contemporary visual technology, Earthion was built for 16-bit hardware and then adapted for newer platforms. Its structure also follows an arcade-style sequence of eight stages, distinct environments, enemies, and bosses instead of open-ended exploration.
What is Earthion?
Earthion is a side-scrolling space shooter built natively for 16-bit systems and later ported to modern platforms.
Players guide space fighter pilot Azusa Takanashi through eight stages, each featuring distinct environments, enemies, and boss encounters. The game includes a weapons arsenal, Hotshot difficulty, and a Challenge mode. Online leaderboards let players compete for rankings, except in the Mega Drive and Genesis editions. Its soundtrack contains 27 original tracks by Yuzo Koshiro. Modern versions include customizable scanline settings for retro-style display effects, while those settings are unavailable in the Mega Drive and Genesis editions. The game follows Azusa's mission to repel alien invaders and save Earth.
