We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-platformer fans who want changing layouts between runs
- Roguelite players who enjoy building characters around runes and equipment
- Players seeking a fantasy adventure with combat, crafting, and boss encounters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want fixed level layouts may hit a wall when routes and boss locations change between attempts
- Players who prefer a direct upgrade path may bounce at the ore gathering, blueprint collection, and blacksmith-forging cycle
- Players seeking a primarily story-driven adventure may find the repeated roguelite structure less suitable
Our take on Dwarf Journey
Players who rely on a predictable route may bounce when randomized cave layouts place a boss entrance early. Another friction point is the build system: choosing among runes, forged equipment, and boss timing requires ongoing decisions rather than a fixed upgrade path.
What is Dwarf Journey?
Dwarf Journey is an action roguelite platformer about Gallar’s search for a relic said to grant eternal life.
Cave levels are randomly generated, placing enemies, routes, and boss entrances differently across attempts. Combat provides experience for character growth, while ores and weapon blueprints can be taken to the village blacksmith to create improved equipment. Runes found in the cave add extra abilities, and a build can contain up to three runes. Items, runes, and forged equipment support different character setups. Players must decide when to enter boss battles, since a boss door may appear early in a run. The gameplay combines platforming, combat, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, character progression, and repeated attempts to reach the lost relic.
How Dwarf Journey plays

- Changing level layouts can place routes and boss entrances in different positions during each attempt.

- 03Equipment Forging
- Ores and weapon blueprints found in the cave can be taken to the village blacksmith for improved gear.
- 04Character Progression
- Experience from combat supports character growth and customization as enemies and bosses are defeated.
Dwarf Journey compared to similar games
Vagante also presents an adventure in dangerous dark-fantasy environments, while Dwarf Journey combines platforming runs with randomized levels, rune builds, ore collection, blueprints, and village blacksmith crafting. Ghost of a Tale instead emphasizes exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations in a medieval world populated by animals, whereas Dwarf Journey centers on combat, character growth, and boss encounters.
