Saves you a refund- Players who want a low-management adventure may hit a wall when Energy, Health, Hunger, fuel, and station power must be managed together.
- Players seeking a fast-paced adventure may find the progression centered on digging, processing materials, crafting, and repairing the plane.
- Solo players who prefer a purely linear route may not want to balance exploration with resource collection and base upkeep.
Our take on Dig Island
The bounce point arrives when digging becomes a planning exercise rather than simple exploration: Energy, Health, Hunger, fuel, and station power all compete for attention. Players who reach deeper areas without preparing supplies or transport can become stranded underground.
What is Dig Island?
Dig Island combines digging, survival, exploration, and crafting on a tropical island after a plane crash.
Players uncover materials underground, with deeper layers containing rarer resources, while managing Energy, Health, Hunger, food, and what to carry. Collected materials can be processed through multiple crafting stations into tools, upgrades, equipment, fuel, and devices. Each station requires power from generators, while neglected solar panels can be repaired to provide ongoing energy. Progress also involves repairing the crashed plane, discovering hidden locations, fishing, preparing meals, and using an elevator or jetpack to reach difficult areas. A story unfolds through tasks and discoveries, with changing weather and up to four-player cooperative play.
How Dig Island plays
- 01Resource digging
- Deeper underground areas contain rarer materials, but digging consumes Energy and mistakes reduce Health.
- 02Station crafting
- Collected materials can be smelted, refined, and combined into tools, upgrades, equipment, fuel, and devices.
- 03Power management
- Generators require fuel, while repaired rooftop solar panels provide ongoing energy and partial base automation.
- 04Plane reconstruction
- Broken aircraft parts must be crafted, repaired, and assembled as part of the escape objective.
- 05Cooperative survival
- Solo play and groups of up to four can share digging, base management, and island survival tasks.
- 06Island traversal
- An elevator enables safer movement through deep areas, while jetpacks reach places inaccessible by walking or swimming.
Dig Island compared to similar games
Mr. Prepper also centers on survival crafting, but its described structure focuses on building an underground shelter and resisting an authoritarian government after the threat of nuclear war. Dig Island instead combines underground digging with island exploration, plane repair, fishing, power management, and cooperative play for up to four players. Unplagued supports teams of up to four, but its task is purging plague from procedurally generated medieval villages, whereas Dig Island uses resource gathering and crafting to pursue escape.
