Our take on Dextram
The one-button, right-turn structure keeps the control scheme focused, but gives up direct firing and braking. Success depends on route planning, enemy positioning, and timing power-ups rather than aiming weapons freely.
What is Dextram?
Dextram is an arcade shoot 'em up built around avoidance rather than direct firing.
Movement continues forward, while a single input allows right turns and offers no braking option. Guide the craft around enemy waves, study their movement patterns, and position them to collide with walls or one another for points. Power-ups include missiles, a giant laser, and a shield, which can destroy enemies. Defeating enough enemies with a power-up activates a combo and grants another power-up. Runs continue endlessly with increasing difficulty; after dying, the score is recorded and the next run begins. Keyboard, mouse, and gamepad controls are supported, along with Steam achievements and leaderboards.
How Dextram plays
- 01Single-input movement
- Forward motion cannot be stopped, and turning is limited to the right.
- 02Enemy pattern play
- Enemy movement can be read and manipulated to cause collisions with walls or other enemies.
- 03Power-up combos
- Missiles, a giant laser, and a shield can destroy enemies, while sufficient power-up kills trigger an additional pickup.
- 04Endless score runs
- The difficulty keeps rising across repeat attempts, with scores tracked through Steam leaderboards.
- 05Multiple control methods
- The game accepts keyboard, mouse, or gamepad input.
