Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike RPG players who want card-based combat and branching story decisions
- Strategy fans who enjoy planning around summoned allies and upgraded decks
- Players seeking a desert fantasy setting with multiple characters and difficulty levels
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed campaign may bounce off the roguelike structure and changing encounters.
- Players who prefer immediate action may find deliberate card choices and decision-heavy battles too slow.
- Players wanting the full roster of enemies and characters at release may find the Early Access scope incomplete.
Our take on Desert Revenant
The likely bounce point is the combat turn: success depends on reading card options, planning each move, and building around summoned allies. Players who prefer direct attacks or low-planning encounters may hit that wall before the branching stories and desert setting have time to matter.
What is Desert Revenant?
Desert Revenant is a roguelike deck-building RPG set in the desert world of Elmyr.
Players choose from multiple characters, assemble decks from a broad selection of cards, upgrade those cards, and shape a personal playstyle. Combat and exploration feature hand-crafted encounters with enemies, bosses, humans, and Jinn. Minions and summonable allies are a central part of play. Decisions can change storylines and affect the world, while mini-puzzles add another activity. The game launches with two maps, each containing dozens of hand-crafted encounters, plus multiple difficulty levels. As an Early Access game, it may not yet contain the full roster of enemies and playable characters.

Shogun Showdown also combines roguelike progression with deck-related combat, but it centers on positioning, attack tiles, combos, and timing attacks before facing the Shogun.
