Our take on Rock and Roots

The card-and-summon structure gives battles a tactical focus, but it limits the role of direct character combat. Progression also centers on collecting soul fragments for Sprig power rather than presenting a broader set of development systems.

What is Rock and Roots?

Rock and Roots is a VR adventure set in an enchanted forest, where an exiled heir gains the ability to summon woodland creatures called Sprigs.

Encounters involve choosing and deploying these allies against fallen knights armed with bows, maces, swords, and hammers. Cards held in the left hand represent different Springs and activate selected Sprigs during battle. The summoned creatures use weapons including clubs, logs, swords, shields, spears, daggers, and axes. A magic gauntlet contains spells for use during the journey. Defeated knights leave soul fragments, which are stored in a piggy bank and used as currency to unlock additional power for the Sprigs.
