Is Derelict Redux worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want top-down shooting with exploration beyond enclosed combat arenas
- Roguelite fans who accept harsh difficulty and variable environments
- Action players interested in scavenging weapons and equipment in a ruined science-fiction setting
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly guided campaign may find the sandbox structure and mixed random generation too open-ended
- Players wanting a forgiving shooter may find the stated difficulty range and hostile encounters demanding
- Players looking for primarily puzzle-based or climbing-focused action will not find those mechanics central here
Our take on Derelict Redux
The sandbox and roguelite structure trade a tightly directed campaign for repeated expeditions through changing locations. That choice also places more weight on survival, scavenging, and combat than on a fixed sequence of story events.
What is Derelict Redux?
Derelict Redux is a top-down shooter set in a distant post-apocalyptic future.
After awakening from stasis, the player explores abandoned spacecraft, space stations, planets, and human settlements left behind after civilization’s collapse. Environments combine handcrafted areas with randomly generated locations. Exploration centers on looting weapons, ships, and equipment while fighting modified organisms, corrupted machines, rival scavengers, and humans affected by a nanite plague. Non-player characters may assist or attack. Multiple difficulty settings range from roguelite play to a much harsher mode. The Redux overhaul rebuilt the game in GameMaker Studio 2 and adds new locations, enemies, weapons, inventory systems, and epitaphs. It also includes full controller support and control rebinding.
