Our take on Deep Sixed
The store page foregrounds mysterious space exploration and alien danger, while the playable duties also center on repairs, chemical construction, purchasing parts, and ongoing ship emergencies. The result is less a broad space voyage than a tightly focused maintenance-and-survival routine.
What is Deep Sixed?
Deep Sixed is a roguelike space simulation about mapping an uncharted nebula for a corporation.
The player pilots a small spacecraft whose damaged systems remain broken until repaired. Keeping the ship operational involves connecting a creature’s brain to a computer with cables and duct tape, constructing chemical compounds using real-world chemistry, and buying replacement parts. Alongside mapping duties, the pilot must respond to alien attacks on the ship’s lower ring. The setting includes a corporation that controls faster-than-light travel and assigns the pilot this work as part of a sentence. The game combines exploration, ship maintenance, chemistry, purchasing, mission progress, and pressure from ongoing emergencies.
How Deep Sixed plays
- 01Ship Repairs
- Damaged spacecraft systems stay broken until the player works out how to fix them.
- 02Chemical Construction
- Real-world chemistry is used to create unusual chemical compounds.
- 03Alien Defense
- The pilot must deal with creatures attacking the ship’s lower ring while handling other duties.
- 04Nebula Mapping
- The assigned mission is to chart an unexplored nebula and report the findings to the corporation.
Deep Sixed compared to similar games
Quasimorph is also a roguelike, but it centers on corporate contracts, extraction, persistent rewards, and a player-run PMC. Deep Sixed instead focuses on mapping a nebula, maintaining a damaged spacecraft, constructing compounds, and responding to alien attacks. The other listed alternatives do not present the same roguelike space-maintenance scope.
