Our take on Death Roads: Tournament
The run-based structure makes defeat costly: a failed attempt sends the journey back to the start. In exchange, unlocks carry over, but progress within a run does not.
What is Death Roads: Tournament?
Choose a driver, car, starting cards, and sponsor before navigating a nonlinear map of turn-based battles and road events.
Cards can attack rivals, maneuver around obstacles, or change position. Shifting into higher gears unlocks stronger cards but raises the risk of skidding. Parts collected from defeated opponents can be used to change a car’s weapons, engine, and wheels, which also changes card combinations. Each run can end in defeat and a restart, while unlocked content carries over. The game combines car combat, deckbuilding, and roguelite progression in a race through the Divided States of America.
How Death Roads: Tournament plays
- 01Gear-based card play
- Higher gears provide access to stronger cards while making skids riskier.
- 02Parts-based deckbuilding
- Parts taken from defeated rivals can change the car and the combinations of cards available.
- 03Persistent unlocks
- A failed run restarts the journey, but previously earned unlocks remain available.
- 04Nonlinear map
- Sponsors determine the starting point for a route across the game map.
