ActionIs Daemonical worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Groups of friends who want hidden-role horror with sessions for up to five players
- Horror players who enjoy choosing between completing objectives and hiding until dawn
- Players who want proximity-based voice communication and asymmetric human-versus-demon roles
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a linear horror campaign, since the game presents nonlinear choices between ritual completion and waiting for dawn
- Players who want to defeat the opposing monster directly, since the demon cannot be killed
- Players looking for a solo-focused experience rather than multiplayer sessions built around human and demon roles
Our take on Daemonical
The hidden-role structure creates uncertainty within the human group, but it limits cooperation: staying together increases strength while also making the players easier for the demon to locate.
What is Daemonical?
Daemonical is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game set on a remote abandoned island, with sessions for up to five players.
Humans search for missing ritual components and return them to the altar, or hide until dawn, when sunlight purges the demon. Fire, weapons, and tools can injure, delay, or distract the demon, but cannot kill it. The demon plays from a third-person perspective and must slaughter the humans or stop the ritual.
Humans use first-person play, while positional voice chat lets nearby players coordinate, with the risk that the demon may overhear. Characters can be customized with different genders, models, clothing, colors, and symbols. The island includes changing weather and time of day, procedural map generation, randomly placed equipment, open areas, landmarks, and nonlinear objectives.
How Daemonical plays
- 01Human Exorcism Route
- Players locate ritual pieces and return them to the altar to send the demon away.
- 02Dawn Survival Route
- Humans can abandon the ritual and remain hidden until sunlight removes the demon from the island.
- 03Asymmetric Player Roles
- Humans pursue survival or objectives while one player controls the demon and hunts them.
- 04Changing Island Conditions
- Time of day and weather vary during play, while much of the island is generated procedurally.
- 05Post-Death Spectating
- Dead players become floating lights that can illuminate routes or track the demon for surviving players.
- 06Positional Voice Chat
- Nearby players can communicate, but the demon may hear those conversations.
- 07Character Customization
- Players can select gender, models, clothing, colors, and symbols for their characters.
