Our take on Crystal Story: The Hero and the Evil Witch
The game trades a fixed, carefully staged dungeon route for repeatable randomized exploration. That choice supports varied runs, but the changing layouts reduce the predictability of a traditionally authored RPG journey.
What is Crystal Story: The Hero and the Evil Witch?
A 2.
5D, turn-based RPG follows Mercenary Inc as four hired fighters pursue an evil witch who stole the Crystal of Power. The party explores randomly generated dungeons, Evil Cave, and other locations on a world map while fighting monsters and collecting loot. Four distinct characters can be developed through party specializations, a dynamic leveling system, equippable abilities, equipment reforging, and item crafting. The adventure includes interactions with a cast of characters, lighthearted dialogue, new scenes, partial voice acting, and monster sounds. This 2020 remake rebuilds a 2011 Newgrounds game with redrawn sprites, recreated 3D levels, revised dialogue, updated gameplay systems, improved graphics and audio, and full controller support.
