Play it if you…
Good fit- Space-trading fans who want to manage a crew as well as buy and sell goods
- Simulation players interested in balancing crew needs and ship upgrades
- Players who want to choose between a story campaign and free-form galaxy travel
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want space encounters to focus only on combat may find the option to resolve them through diplomacy a poor match.
- Players who do not want to monitor crew satisfaction and compatibility may hit a wall when crew care becomes part of ship management.
- Players looking for a puzzle-focused or prison-escape game will find a different core activity here.
Our take on Cosmonautica
The likely sticking point arrives when crew management starts affecting the ship: players who want to trade or travel without tending to crew satisfaction and compatibility may lose interest at that system.
What is Cosmonautica?
Cosmonautica combines space trading with crew simulation in a procedurally generated galaxy.
Players begin aboard a run-down cruiser and can pursue trading, smuggling, piracy, or taxi work. The crew can include up to eight members, who need care and can be promoted; how well they work together and how content they are affects the ship’s performance. Trading involves goods, including rare and illegal items, across solar systems with different traits. Players can follow a campaign about a mysterious container and the ship AI’s past, or travel freely in sandbox mode. Ships can be fitted with upgradeable rooms and customized. Space encounters allow direct attacks, tactical maneuvers, hacking, or diplomacy.
