Our take on Command Line Pilot
Its defining structure is a command-line programming loop: add cards, execute the sequence, respond to disruptions, buy upgrades, and choose the next mission.
What is Command Line Pilot?
Command Line Pilot combines card-based programming with a turn-based roguelike structure.
Each turn, select a card and place it into the Mech’s command line, then execute the resulting program. Enemies can disrupt the planned sequence during missions, requiring adjustments to card choices and upgrades. Missions take place across various planets and differ through their objectives, enemies, and layouts. After a successful mission, purchase upgrades that change battle decisions before selecting the next mission. The game also includes unlockable Mechs, each offering new cards and playstyles. Progression follows a repeating cycle of programming, execution, disruption, upgrading, and mission selection.
How Command Line Pilot plays
- 01Card-Based Commands
- Cards are added to the Mech’s command line each turn before the programmed sequence is executed.
- 02Battle Upgrades
- Post-mission purchases modify the Mech and influence decisions in later battles.
- 03Variable Missions
- Playthroughs use different objectives, opponents, and level layouts across missions.
- 04Unlockable Mechs
- Additional Mechs introduce new cards and distinct ways to approach missions.
Command Line Pilot compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike progression, but focuses on positioning, attack tiles, combos, skills, and deck building before confronting the Shogun. Command Line Pilot instead centers each turn on programming a Mech through a sequence of cards, with enemy disruption and mission selection shaping the run.
