Our take on Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Rather than treating World War II strategy as broad army management, the game focuses on battalion-and-below command. Its hybrid real-time and WeGo structure also replaces a single fixed battle tempo with two distinct ways to issue orders.
What is Combat Mission Battle for Normandy?
This tactical simulation covers three months of fighting in Western France, from the Allied landings in June through the Cobra breakout in August.
Players command American and German Heer formations at battalion-and-below scale, controlling individual vehicles, teams, and squads in 3D environments. Four campaigns, 21 standalone scenarios, Quick Battle maps, and a scenario editor support different forms of play. Combat models morale, experience, leadership, visibility, line of sight, command and control, ballistics, and battlefield effects. Weather and lighting affect combat conditions. Battles can run in real time or through a turn-based WeGo system, with single-player, head-to-head, and Play By Email modes.
