Our take on Carrier Commander
The defining choice is whether to manage carrier operations or take direct control of aircraft and destroyers during engagements.
What is Carrier Commander?
Carrier Commander is a real-time strategy game centered on managing aircraft carrier operations against incoming attacks.
Players can purchase, configure, launch, land, and refuel F/A-18C fighters, and upgrade the carrier’s air defenses. Destroyers can be equipped with deck cannons, torpedoes, anti-aircraft rockets, sonar, and radar; Hawkeye aircraft provide long-range warnings. For direct combat, players can pilot an F/A-18 or control a destroyer to engage enemy aircraft, ships, and submarines. Funds earned in each level carry over as starting money for the next challenge, so spending on aircraft and upgrades affects later rounds. The game also includes military ranks and special operation missions, and uses randomized AI to vary encounters.
How Carrier Commander plays
- 01Two control styles
- Players can focus on carrier management or take direct control of aircraft and destroyers in combat.
- 02Carryover funds
- Money earned in one level becomes the starting budget for the next, making purchases relevant across rounds.
- 03Randomized encounters
- AI generation varies games so repeated runs do not follow the same pattern.
- 04Configurable destroyers
- Destroyer loadouts can include deck guns, torpedoes, anti-aircraft rockets, sonar, and radar.
