Our take on BRUTUS MAXIMUS
The store presentation foregrounds the Roman road-trip premise and a large upgrade count, while the actual structure centers on repeated 20-minute survival runs. The journey across the Empire provides setting and map progression, but combat combinations are the main source of variation.
What is BRUTUS MAXIMUS?
BRUTUS MAXIMUS is a hack-and-slash survival roguelite set during a journey from Germania to Rome.
Each run lasts 20 minutes and uses melee or ranged combat against Roman legions and other enemies across 14 maps. Players can choose from six named legionnaire classes, including Legionarius, Centurion, Gladiator, Sagittarius, Ballistarius, and Hastatus. Runs offer more than 250 player upgrades, magic abilities, and weapon skills, with combinations built around attack effects, elemental damage, and class-specific options. A main weapon can be paired with an offhand item, which may add attacks, ammunition behavior, armor, movement, or collection range. The game also includes distinct bosses, upgrade shrines, achievements, and freely swappable offhand equipment during a run.
