Our take on BroodStar
Run resets give the game a clear cost for failure: collected modules carry forward as research points, but the attempt itself ends. That structure trades continuous campaign progress for repeated runs with persistent ship upgrades.
What is BroodStar?
BroodStar is an arcade shoot-'em-up built around roguelike runs.
Its campaign contains 12 stages with distinct themes and enemy types, along with optional stages. Random enemies, events, bosses, and stage modifiers alter each run. Players can choose from 7 main and 6 sub weapon types and collect 200 upgrades, including stat changes, active items, projectile modifiers, and drone companions. Some upgrades combine to create different effects. When a run ends, collected modules become research points for three research trees: Offense, Defense, and Utility. Challenge stages use specific setups and have separate leaderboards. Each playthrough also receives a seed identifier that can be shared to reproduce its generated content. The objective is to defeat the living planet BroodStar.
