Our take on Broken Minds
The defining structure puts the player in the client’s position: progress comes from arguing with eccentric detectives about the mystery rather than conducting the investigation directly.
What is Broken Minds?
Broken Minds is a psychological murder-mystery visual novel set in 1990s Japan.
Noa Karada, a solitary woman in her twenties, seeks assistance from the Yamagata Private Detective Agency after The Orphan, a killer wearing a rabbit mask, starts following her. Players act as Noa, the client, instead of taking the role of an investigator or attorney. Solving the case involves logic and reading exercises in which Noa challenges the detectives’ interpretation of events. Areas to explore, decisions, and concealed secrets affect the routes, with six possible endings. The game also features more than an hour of original music and a flowchart for route navigation.
How Broken Minds plays
- 01Client Perspective
- The player takes Noa’s role and argues with the detectives about the mystery instead of playing a detective or lawyer.
- 02Six Endings
- Different routes lead to six possible conclusions.
- 03Route Flowchart
- A flowchart supports navigation through the game’s routes.
- 04Explorable Environments
- The mystery includes locations that can be explored during play.
- 05Original Music
- The game includes over an hour of original music.
