Our take on Astrologaster
The comic premise and historical setting receive the most attention, while the core activity is a repeated cycle of reading the stars and advising returning clients. The licence objective gives those choices structure, but the experience remains focused on narrative decisions rather than broad simulation.
What is Astrologaster?
Astrologaster is a narrative comedy adventure set in London in 1592, during a plague.
Players take the role of Simon Forman, an unlicensed astrologer who advises clients by interpreting the stars and seeks a medical licence. Thirteen clients visit five to seven times, with their ongoing stories intersecting across personal, professional, and medical problems. Astrological choices affect the plot and each client’s satisfaction. Satisfied clients can provide recommendation letters, which contribute toward Forman’s licence. The game includes voiced dialogue from more than a dozen actors, Renaissance music with character songs, and a pop-up-book presentation for Forman’s cases. Choices can be strategic or made for comic effect, with consequences and unpredictable side effects.
