Our take on Break Siege
The real-time format sacrifices the pause-and-plan rhythm associated with turn-based deck-builders. Card choices still shape combat, but encounters require decisions while the battle is unfolding, making route planning and card familiarity part of the pressure.
What is Break Siege?
Break Siege is a train-themed roguelike built around deck construction and real-time combat.
Players operate an interstellar train between planets while confronting Imperial resistance during a mission for the Rebel forces. Each run creates a new route with different planets, events, equipment, and recruitment opportunities. Equipment can improve the train, while mercenaries join the team. Combat combines selected cards with real-time battles rather than turn-based encounters. Each train has its own card selection and mechanics, requiring players to learn card effects during play. When an adventure ends, progress can unlock additional cards, mercenaries, and abilities for later runs.
How Break Siege plays
- 01Procedural Planetary Routes
- Each playthrough generates a different journey containing planets, events, equipment, and recruitment choices.
- 02Real-Time Card Combat
- Deck-based abilities are used during battles that unfold without turns.
- 03Train-Specific Card Pools
- Different trains provide distinct selections of cards and mechanics to learn.
- 04Persistent Unlocks
- Completed adventures can open additional cards, mercenaries, and abilities for future runs.
