Our take on Blink
Its defining mechanic is the Eye: closing it turns brightly lit objects into solid afterimages, creating temporary platforms and puzzle elements.
What is Blink?
Blink is a puzzle adventure set inside the perception of a mysterious Eye.
When the Eye is open, lights reveal the world; when it closes, brightly lit objects leave afterimages that become solid platforms. Use switches, rotate light sources, and carry lanterns to place these temporary objects where they are needed. The game presents lateral-thinking challenges involving 2D dynamic lighting, unreachable areas, and enemies that form part of the puzzles. Exploration moves through underground ruins, ancient towers, floating cities, and other hand-drawn environments while revealing ancient technologies and the source of the strange power. A peaceful, somber soundtrack accompanies the journey, and the game specifically excludes box-pushing puzzles.
How Blink plays
- 01Light-Based Puzzles
- Dynamic 2D lighting changes which objects can become usable afterimages when the Eye closes.
- 02Portable Light Sources
- Switches, adjustable lamps, and carried lanterns let players control where illuminated objects appear.
- 03Puzzle Enemies
- Some enemies are incorporated into the challenges rather than serving only as obstacles.
- 04Hand-Drawn Environments
- Exploration includes underground ruins, ancient towers, and floating cities.
- 05Original Soundtrack
- Ryan Sligh provides a somber and peaceful musical score.
Blink compared to similar games
