Our take on Bleak Sword DX
The store copy gives substantial space to visual effects and atmosphere, but the central structure is a twelve-chapter campaign with compact battlefields. The added modes are specific challenges: one strings together the bosses, while another escalates enemy difficulty in an arena.
What is Bleak Sword DX?
Bleak Sword DX takes place in a grim fantasy world of small, cursed battlefield dioramas, where players use weapons and magic against monstrous foes.
Across 12 chapters, the goal is to break the Bleak Sword’s curse by defeating the creatures in each area. This edition brings together the original chapters and three DLC chapters, with redesigned layouts for stages and enemies. A Randomizer alters the campaign’s progression, while Boss Run pits players against all 12 bosses in a row with a single health bar. Arena mode is a survival fight against foes that grow tougher over time.
Combat uses attacks, parries, and counters, with controls revised for PC and console and enemy behavior made less predictable. Visual updates include post-processing, depth of field, filters, particle effects, foliage, and weather. Jim Guthrie composed the music, and Joonas Turner created the sound.
