- Players looking for a light or contemporary setting instead of demon-filled Osaka and a postwar story
Our take on BLADECHIMERA
Rather than limiting the companion to combat, the game makes Lux part weapon, part shield, part platform, and part time-manipulation tool. Progression also connects movement abilities such as warping and double jumping to wider exploration across its metroidvania map.
What is BLADECHIMERA?
BLADECHIMERA follows Shin, a demon hunter without memories, through a corrupted future Osaka shaped by the Demon War.
Lux, a shapeshifting demon who can become a sword and manipulate time, attacks enemies, blocks damage, creates platforms, and restores objects from earlier periods. Combat includes firearms, greatswords, whips, and other weapons. Defeating demons grants levels and access to a skill tree, including abilities such as teleportation and double jumping. Exploration covers a larger map than earlier Team Ladybug games, with side quests that expand the setting and Shin’s relationships. The story centers on Shin’s partnership with Lux, the search for his lost history, and the survivors protected by the Holy Union.
How BLADECHIMERA plays
- 01Shapeshifting Companion
- Lux changes into a sword, shields Shin, forms platforms, and alters objects by drawing on earlier states.
- 02Skill Tree Progression
- Leveling up after battles grants access to abilities such as map-wide warping and double jumping.
- 03Mixed Weapon Arsenal
- Shin can combine firearms with melee options including greatswords and whips.
- 04Expanded Exploration
- The map is larger than those in previous Team Ladybug projects and includes side quests tied to the setting.
BLADECHIMERA compared to similar games
Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a metroidvania, but its description emphasizes chaotic action and a roguelite adventure, while BLADECHIMERA centers on a fixed demon-hunter story, skill-tree progression, weapon variety, and side quests. Jusant focuses on climbing tools, stamina management, and a meditative ascent, rather than demon combat and metroidvania exploration.
