Our take on Blackout: The Darkest Night
The branching structure gives choices room to reshape routes and chapter order, but it also means a single run cannot cover every location. With a first playthrough lasting about 1.5 to 2 hours, exploring the full set of paths depends on replaying.
What is Blackout: The Darkest Night?
Blackout is interactive fiction with a branching structure, set in a contemporary, shadowy world where unseen creatures and personal fears lurk.
The protagonist comes to on a city street, unable to recall recent events, and must choose whether to uncover the truth or walk away. Decisions shape chapter order and the paths through each location. Three shifting traits—Courage, Sanity, and Fitness—along with acquired objects determine which choices and routes are available. The story spans 10 locations and an epilogue; some places are optional or cannot both be visited in the same run, so a playthrough does not include every chapter.
There are five endings, and play does not end in a game over. A first run lasts about 1. 5 to 2 hours, with later attempts changing according to choices, items, traits, and location sequence.
