Our take on Battlecruisers
Real-time control concentrates the game on rapid battlefield decisions, but leaves less room for the slower, deliberative planning found in turn-based strategy. The focus on building and commanding one battlecruiser also narrows the scope compared with games centered on broader armies or campaigns.
What is Battlecruisers?
Battlecruisers is a hand-drawn real-time strategy game set in the 28th century, after rising oceans have submerged much of Earth.
Players design, build, arm, and defend a floating battlecruiser while managing resources and production during combat. Victories add frigates, artillery, bombers, lasers, stealth generators, shields, boosters, builder drones, and other weapons to the arsenal. Battles involve attacking enemy warships, defending the cruiser, and deploying weapons such as napalm, nuclear launchers, and experimental ultra-weapons. Opponents include AI-controlled military robots, colossi, and fortresses. New cruisers, buildings, units, and ultra-weapons become available as play progresses, with battles offering multiple difficulty levels and encounters against human players or AI.

Men of War: Assault Squad focuses on World War II, large-scale strategy, and direct control of individual combat units, while Battlecruisers centers on designing and operating a single floating warship in real-time battles. Xenonauts uses turn-based squad combat and a multinational military organization against an alien invasion, whereas Battlecruisers uses real-time cruiser construction, resource management, and robot enemies.
