Our take on Back to Bed
The striking dream-world presentation receives more attention than the underlying activity: moving objects and redirecting Bob through hazards. The central relationship between Bob and Subob is presented as important, but the listing gives little detail about how that narrative develops across the puzzles.
What is Back to Bed?
Back to Bed is a 3D puzzle game set in a surreal, hand-painted dream world.
Players control Subob, Bob’s subconscious guardian, and arrange objects and parts of the environment to create a safe route for Bob, who sleepwalks through hazardous city scenes. The levels use an isometric viewpoint and include unusual architecture, such as folded streets, looping stairs, and other impossible spaces. Gameplay centers on redirecting Bob’s movement, manipulating oversized objects, and working around hazards. The game presents Subob and Bob as two aspects of one mind, with their relationship conveyed without spoken dialogue. Each stage is built as a dreamlike environment combining urban settings with imagery influenced by surrealist painting.
How Back to Bed plays
- 01Isometric Puzzle Levels
- Stages place Bob in three-dimensional dream environments where routes depend on rearranging objects and using the surrounding architecture.
- 02Hazard Avoidance
- Players must redirect the sleepwalker away from dangers while guiding him toward his bed.
- 03Surreal Dreamscapes
- The environments combine painted urban scenes with impossible structures, including looping stairways and warped streets.
- 04Subob And Bob
- Subob acts as the conscious part of Bob’s mind and guides his sleeping counterpart through each stage.
