We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy indie-rock soundtracks paired with short exploratory adventures
- Players seeking a narrative game focused on self-expression and mental health themes
- Players who prefer compact experiences that can be completed in one sitting
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a long campaign, extensive progression, or a large amount of replay content may reach the end quickly.
- Players seeking demanding controls or complex systems may bounce off the simple control scheme and focused structure.
- Players wanting combat-centered space gameplay may find the exploration and music-video format too limited.
Our take on Asterism
The bounce point arrives when the two-hour, single-sitting structure becomes clear. Players expecting extended progression, combat systems, or a broad space sandbox will encounter a tightly bounded music-and-exploration experience instead.
What is Asterism?
Asterism is a spacefaring journey structured like an interactive indie-rock record.
It follows Ruby, an astronaut tracking strange transmissions and remnants of lost melodies through a carefully crafted planetary system. Players glide across icy waters, mark paths on extraterrestrial ground, and visit worlds that each feature their own musical accompaniment. Reaching a planet opens a music video that can be played. The presentation blends stop-motion vessels, assembled artwork, and illustrated figures, while the story considers identity, accepting oneself, unease, and psychological wellbeing. The game uses straightforward controls and lasts roughly 2 hours, intended for completion during one session. Solo creator Claire Morwood provides the vocals and electric-guitar parts heard in the soundtrack.
