Our take on ASCIIDENT

The open-world framing gives the game a broad premise, but the current playable scope is much narrower: about two hours are available in one location, while movement to neighboring planets and stations is still part of the location's development.

What is ASCIIDENT?

Explore asteroid FA-17 in a science-fiction RPG about a human clone who escaped space pirates.

The game presents its graphics through ASCII characters and offers eight retro display modes plus an LED font option. The current location includes a spaceport, abandoned areas, creatures, neutral characters, skill training, crafting, and hostile encounters. Skills cover areas such as melee, plasma weapons, piloting, navigation, and radiation resistance. Neuroprogrammers allow clones to learn skills when the required device and instructor or creature are available. Computer terminals contain additional games that can award in-game currency. The location is still under development, with about two hours of gameplay currently available.

ASCIIDENT compared to similar games

ASCIIDENT combines a science-fiction setting, ASCII presentation, skill training, crafting, and a developing asteroid location. Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition centers on an unconventional story and exploration, while Back to the Dawn focuses on prison escape, investigation, survival, and crime. Angels of Death is an RPG Maker spin-off, giving it a different presentation and setting.
