Our take on Artemis Cosmos
Rather than centering one hero, the game makes the spaceship itself the main playable structure. Progress depends on distributing bridge responsibilities among human crew members, while Python scripting opens the underlying AI, interface, mission, and game-mode systems to customization.
What is Artemis Cosmos?
Operate a spacecraft as a cooperative bridge crew, with players taking roles such as Captain, Helm, and Weapons.
A game requires at least two players for Helm and Weapons, while each ship can support five bridge officers plus the Captain. One copy acts as the server, and other players connect as client stations over a local network. The game supports 2 to 11 players, multiple human-controlled ships in one sector, and groups running extra copies to fill unoccupied stations. Some ships can carry fighters and pilots. There is no official matchmaking server, though players can connect through the game's forums. Python scripting supports changes to non-player AI, interfaces, communications, science systems, visual effects, and custom missions or play modes.
How Artemis Cosmos plays
- 01Crewed bridge stations
- Players divide spacecraft duties among positions including Captain, Helm, Weapons, and other bridge officer roles.
- 02Local network play
- One game instance hosts the session while other computers connect as client stations.
- 03Multi-ship sectors
- Several human-crewed ships can explore the same sector without an artificial crew limit.
- 04Python customization
- Scripting can alter non-player AI, user interfaces, communications, science, visual effects, missions, and game modes.
