Our take on Anglerfish
The death-driven structure trades stable progress for variation: each failure resets the night but also changes the next attempt. Repetition becomes part of the narrative, while conventional run-to-run progress is sacrificed.
What is Anglerfish?
Anglerfish is a survival-horror adventure set during a bachelor party at a secluded bar in the Mols mountains.
Players explore the building to uncover hidden secrets and buried mysteries while fighting disturbing forces with a shotgun. Death restarts the night, and the game saves only when the player dies. Each death also changes something in the next attempt, based on where and how it happened. These alterations are handcrafted, so each playthrough presents a new version of the same night. The story follows a group of colleagues whose gathering takes a disturbing turn as the secrets of Anglerfish emerge. Exploration, combat, repeated attempts, and a dog that can be petted are part of the game.
How Anglerfish plays
- 01Death-based progression
- The game saves at death and uses the location and circumstances of that death to alter the next attempt.
- 02Handcrafted run changes
- Each replay contains a specially created variation rather than an identical version of the night.
- 03Shotgun combat
- The player uses a shotgun to fight the forces encountered during the adventure.
- 04Environmental exploration
- Searching the bar reveals concealed information and mysteries connected to Anglerfish.
- 05Pettable dog
- A dog can be petted during the game.
