The game includes two campaigns set amid conflicts involving factions, corporations, privateers, and governments. Combat uses an initiative system and includes varied weapon systems and abilities. Fleet development includes more than 35 ship types, three resources to manage, and a technology tree for unlocking upgrades that shape play. Two major factions and three sub-factions provide the setting for campaigns involving exploration, conquest, pillage, and liberation.
