Our take on Amygdala
The presentation foregrounds supernatural horror, creature design, and Unreal Engine 5 visuals, while the developer frames the project as a way to give context to personally created creatures and express emotions. That makes the game’s artistic purpose more specific than its broad horror framing suggests.
What is Amygdala?
Amygdala is a first-person horror adventure set in a dreamlike realm inhabited by entities that may assume symbolic bodies.
Appointed by the Absolute Judge, players investigate unstable nightmares as a seeker and collect the eyes of their rulers. A central hub provides access to three regions: a deserted hotel marked by rituals and unusual creatures, a towering bookcase occupied by ravenous beings, and warped laboratories examining beauty and media standards. Exploration, monster encounters, uncanny environments, and an unconventional story form the core experience. A solo developer created the game with Unreal Engine 5, linking its separate nightmares through lighting and visual design. It contains flashing imagery, violent scenes, blood, explicit sexual material, and coarse language.
