We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Groups of 2-8 friends who want a local deception-and-combat party game
- Remote groups with Steam access who want to share one game copy
- Players who enjoy short competitive matches built around hiding, detection, and melee attacks
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a single-player campaign, since at least 2 participants are required
- Players wanting a story-driven or progression-focused game rather than repeated crowd-based party rounds
- Groups without enough controllers for the participants beyond the single keyboard user
- Players looking for genres other than competitive action and casual party play
Our take on Ambush
The emphasis on eight-player sessions and multiple modes may obscure two practical constraints: the game requires at least two participants, and only one player can use a keyboard. Everyone else needs a controller, including players joining through Remote Play.
What is Ambush?
Ambush is a multiplayer party game built around concealment in crowds of NPCs.
Players search for human-controlled opponents, stay hidden, and attack with katanas. Matches require at least 2 players and support up to 8 local participants. Steam Remote Play Together allows invited friends to join online while one player owns the game. The game includes modes with different hazards and objectives: drones pursue players, periodic reveals expose ninjas, defeated players can return inside AI bodies, lasers cross the arena, items appear for combat, a deadly zone contracts, and stars can be collected or contested. Only one participant can use a keyboard; additional players need controllers, including during Remote Play.
