Our take on After Long Night
The presentation emphasizes heavy weapons, large zombie assaults, and open-ended chaos. Its management model is narrower: there are no civilian approval systems or happiness meters, so the strategy centers on production, fortification, and combat.
What is After Long Night?
After Long Night is a sandbox survival real-time strategy game set in a city controlled by the undead.
Players gather materials from buildings, signs, and abandoned vehicles, then use them to construct shelters, defenses, weapons, and supplies. Survivors can be assigned to tasks such as farming, cooking, crafting, and construction. Military units include gunners, RPG teams, tanks, and artillery, with squads organized for defensive or offensive operations. Each night brings zombie attacks that require barricades, towers, fortified positions, and coordinated deployments. The game also includes Challenge, Endless, and Cheat modes. Cheat Mode allows unlimited unit spawning and unusual activities such as staging a post-apocalyptic cricket tournament.
How After Long Night plays
- 01Urban resource recovery
- Buildings, street furniture, and abandoned vehicles can be dismantled into construction and crafting materials.
- 02Survivor task management
- Survivors can grow crops, prepare food, make weapons, and construct defensive structures.
- 03Combined-arms combat
- The roster includes frontline gunners, RPG crews, tanks, infantry, and artillery.
- 04Nightly base defense
- Players arrange barricades, towers, and specialized squads before zombie attacks reach the gates.
- 05Alternative game modes
- Challenge, Endless, and Cheat modes provide different ways to play beyond the standard survival scenario.
After Long Night compared to similar games
After Long Night combines real-time base construction, scavenging, survivor labor, and zombie defense, while Xenonauts uses turn-based small-squad battles against aliens and technology recovery. Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation focuses on commanding vast armies across a galactic setting, rather than managing a fortified shelter and nightly undead attacks.
