Our take on A Fool's Art Gallery
The bounce point arrives when exploration is the entire activity: after viewing the gallery and its surrounding spaces, players expecting combat, puzzles, missions, or progression have no comparable system to fall back on. The large art collection supplies the content, but not a conventional game loop.
What is A Fool's Art Gallery?
Explore a first-person 3D gallery built with the GZDOOM engine.
The experience centers on wandering through a large virtual exhibition space rather than combat: no characters are killed, and no one kills the player. The gallery collects more than 900 works from one Canadian artist’s 20-year body of work, including paintings, pen-and-ink drawings, blueprints, designs, digital pieces, three self-published books, and hand-drawn NPCs. The surrounding world includes psychedelic elements, 4D entities represented in 3D space, music, and other visual material. The game presents itself as a digital coffee table book and an escapist exploration experience. Planned additions include further art, music, cats, secrets, animation, NPCs, a Linux version, and spa and lounge levels.
