Our take on 39 Days to Mars
The voyage premise gives the game a clear setting and cooperative focus, but its full adventure is sized for an evening or a long tea break. The compact scope is therefore a central part of the experience, alongside the local multiplayer format.
What is 39 Days to Mars?
39 Days to Mars is a steampunk puzzle-adventure about the maiden voyage of the HMS Fearful, an unreliable 19th-century spacecraft traveling to Mars.
Players take the roles of explorers Sir Albert Wickes and Clarence Baxter and work through problems affecting the ship, including running out of coal, damaged navigation and other disasters. The local co-op mode supports two players, with both characters taking important roles during the expedition. Solo play replaces the second player with the ship’s computer-controlled cat. The game combines action with thoughtful puzzles and is arranged for short sessions, with the complete adventure fitting into an evening or a long tea break. Illustrated artwork, a rich soundscape and piano music provide the presentation.
