Battles use clear turn-based rules, weapon affinities, and a weapon triangle. Maps can require defeating enemies, solving puzzles, surviving for a period, escaping, or meeting time limits. Units belong to varied classes and can advance into several other classes. An arena provides a place for additional leveling, while weapon forging and crafting add equipment work between or around battles. Pixel-based battle animations accompany the encounters.
